As a single parent in charge of everything, I have to make an extra effort to take care of myself. I'm a better mom and friend when I do. Many times, I don't have the money to get massages or other items or services that would be special treats to enjoy. What I've learned, over the course of time, is that I can either find the money or treat myself with some self-service.
Am I talking about sex-toys again?
Why the hell not? I definitely believe that single women should invest in a special battery operated boyfriend, dildo, porn or whatever is going to make life a little less frustrating. Men have toys and special items that they could use as well. Go get you some! Last year during the month of May, I celebrated Masturbation Month in the hopes of encouraging more self-love among readers. Because if you don't know how to please yourself, who else will be able to figure it out, right?

Another item that I enjoy for some self-service is my foam roller.
I know there are exercises for this thing but I use it for massage. It is SOOOO great. I roll it on my back for all sorts of snap, crackle, pop sounds. And after my long bike ride this past weekend, I rolled my butt and my legs on it to work out all of that trapped lactic acid. It feels like a hard core deep tissue massage that hurts so good.

I also treat myself by making my own homemade smoothies or buying myself flowers. Some girlfriends of mine treat themselves to home pedicures and spa nights. One even shared with me this special body scrub recipe:
2 tbs olive oil
1/2 tbs cocoa powder
1 cup of brown sugar
1/2 tbs cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
Mix everything well, store in sealed container. It will be good for 6 months.
We are all truly deserving of special treats, men AND women.
What do you do for yourself?
Every single mom needs one... (part 1), (part 2), (part 3), (part 4), (part 5), (part 6)

very true T. Everyone needs to do things just for them. I deer hunt!
ReplyDeleteDuring my kids-free weekend I cook lobsters just for myself and drink chardonay. If I'd learn to give up my love for good food. I might afford myself a good sex toy ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I'm a fan of all of the above (*blushing*), there's nothing like a night at home with flowers, wine, a good dinner, a pedicure and a mud mask topped off with a little OoooOoooOooo before bed. ;) ha.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy living in the moment and doing whatever I want. Sometimes I may look at the view of the water and simply meditate on life and love or maybe I'll just go to the nearest bar and talk to the old guy who sits there every night and see what wisdom he can share...
ReplyDeleteSelf indulgence doesn't have to be a physical thing. It can be a mental treat as well by throwing out the worries and tasks your mind has flowing in it and expanding the consciousness to a new level.
Oh, and I will have to join in on the Masturbation Month of May now that most of the blogworld's women have made it a month long celebration...alas, no love right now for DJQ. :(
I love taking a bubble bath by candlelight with a glass of wine...
ReplyDeleteYes, baths, wine on the deck, a good workout (toy or not), pedicure!!
ReplyDeleteOh, you know my take on women and sex toys. I'd rather see women getting it on with men! Actually, I'd rather see them getting it on with me...
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're getting some of your needs met
You know me, I'm a big fan of the toys, too. ESPECIALLY as another gal in a long distance relationship.
ReplyDeleteI also buy myself flowers from time to time...and on my "free" nights (without kids or my man) I like to curl up in bed with my laptop and my favourite show....
Okay...clearly I have to start doing for myself. I used to be really good at getting a massage once in a while or a pedicure. I loves me some purdy feet. Yup...time to get my summer feet together...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the gentle reminder.
Gee, T, I never look at my masturbatory moments as "me" time — they're just an essential part of the day, like teeth brushing, coffee drinking and whatnot. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy "indulgence" time is going on long walks or taking a bike ride when I have 5 million things to do. Enjoying a nice glass of wine with dinner, going into bed early and reading (aka falling asleep because I inevitably do!)
It's been so long since I did anything for myself I can't even think of something to do.
ReplyDeleteI get up, hurry hurry hurry to take kids to school/daycare, work about 10-12 hours per day (no child support = crazy long hours to support my kids) come home, cook, clean, homework, baths, bed. Rinse and repeat six days per week.
I painted the kitchen this weekend, because I wanted to. Does that count?
i have a "my hour" everyday. This one hour i talk to myself, question myself and plan with myself on how i want to continue live this beautiful life.
